Little Tokyo BID
Update
The first Little Tokyo BID Committee meeting of 1997 was held on January 15th at the Koban. The main discussion focused upon the various programs which the BID would cover.
The Annual Program was divided into five general categories: Crime/Security, Promotions/Events, Marketing, Clean-up/Beautification, and Management. This list of programs covered by the BID was based upon the three surveys the BID Committee and the Little Tokyo Service Center Community Development Corporation had conducted in the past. Within each of these main categories are several programs:
Crime / Security: funding for the Koban, Anti-Crime Patrol, and expanding the Visitor’s Information Center within the Koban.
Promotions / Events: a Promotions /Events Bulletin to help coordinate events among local businesses, funding and general support for Nisei Week, and creating Special Events to promote the uniqueness of Little Tokyo.
Marketing: working to increase Tourists/Visitors, promoting the cheap parking found in the area, and Business Recruitment.
Clean-up/Beautification: funding to supervise court referrals cleaning up the area, maintaining the sidewalks, and beautification projects like tree planting.
Management: paid staff, a budget to assist the Committee activities, funding for a newsletter.
At the end of the meeting, a sub-committee was formed to work on the budget for these programs.
This is a first draft of the Annual Program for the BID and may change as more discussion takes place. It is very important to get community input at this stage, as the programs are being determined. The BID Committee usually meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:30 pm at the Koban and everyone is welcome to attend.
