PJCI Annual Luncheon
April 3, 2005
Brookside Country Club

The PJCI luncheon was entertained by the Kodama Taiko Group. This luncheon serves as a gathering of old and new friends and to honor the high school scholarship winners.

This year, PJCI honored two local high school seniors with the Tak Sera Memorial Scholarship. The applicants wrote about their service to the local community and their ties to the Pasadena Japanese Cultural Institute.

Honorees are:
Kelcie Kawakami, La Cañada High School and Matthew Mikuni, La Cañada High School

The Amy Utsunomiya Memorial Youth Community Service Award was created by the Utsunomiya family to honor the local youth that give up their time to provide service to the community. The awardees are nominated by community members for their service. Amy, was one of the founders of what is now known as the Pasadena Nikkei Seniors. She was very active in her hometown, served as a PJCI board member, and offered her time and creativity to run a week-long summer camp (Matsuri Camp) which was used to teach youngsters about Japanese Culture.

This year, the honorees of this award are Kelcie Kawakami and Lauren Takeda. The scholarship was presented by Wade Utsunomiya. A perpetual memorial plaque is being produced which will list the names of the scholarship winners for the years to come.
